MOA signing of the project executed by (L-R) Ms. Karen Dañez (DOST), Ms. Maria Divina Gloria Ramos (DTI), Ms. Precy Landingin (DAR) and Mr. Gaudencio Lactaoen (Pindangan 2nd PMPC) with Mayor Erlon Agustin of Camiling, Tarlac as witness.
The Department of Science and Technology Region 3 recently provided Grant-in-Aid assistance to three (3) Agrarian Reform Beneficiary Organizations (ARBOs) in Tarlac by virtue of its involvement in the DAR-DTI-CARP-DOST Synchronization Program.
Mayantoc Sweet Potato Clean Planting Materials Cooperative (Mayantoc), Pindangan 2nd Primary Multipurpose Cooperative (Camiling) and Ventinilla Farmers Marketing Cooperative (Paniqui) are producers of sweet potato noodles and snacks, chichacorn or kornik, and brown rice, respectively.
The Mayantoc SPCPM Cooperative received a noodle maker, fryer and a molder that greatly improved their production efficiency. As Ms. Pamela Agabao, QA Head, happily declared, “Dati po ay mano-mano kung gumawa kami, ngayon ay napabilis na po dahil sa mga equipment at ngayon ay mayroon na kaming dagdag na sustainable income.” The total assistance granted to them amounted to P146,480.00.
On the other hand, Mr. Gaudencio Lactaoen, Chairman of Pindangan 2nd PMPC, was very appreciative of the assistance provided to their cooperative stating “Naging triple po ang aming produksyon ngayon dahil sa mga kagamitan na ipinagkaloob ng DOST kaya lubos po kaming nagpapasalamat sa mga natanggap naming tulong”. They received chicharon processing equipment worth P441,540.00 which included a solar tunnel dryer, fryer, stainless steel pots and food thermometer, among others.
The Ventinilla Farmers Marketing Cooperative, for its part, was provided with a double chamber vacuum packaging machine worth P95,000.00 that not only enhanced the packaging appearance of their black, brown and red rice products but also prolonged the shelf life of the same.
DOST - Tarlac Provincial Science and Technology Center Director Mrs. Karen Danez said the project is in support of RA 11321 which directs government agencies to provide assistance to farmers in enterprise development. “We hope that these technological interventions would encourage more of our farmers to venture into farming-related enterprises that will provide them with extra income during off-season.” She also acknowledged the assistance provided by the partner-agencies DAR and DTI in the project.
